Supporting apprenticeship growth at Travis Perkins

Posted by Admin

Travis Perkins is the UK’s largest builders’ merchant, supplying building materials to trade, construction and DIY Markets, with over 20 industry leading brands and over 2000 outlets.

As an employer provider on the Register of Apprenticeship and Training Providers (RoATP), the Travis Perkins Group are passionate about providing the highest quality of apprenticeships. They run the “Learn and Earn” Apprenticeship Programmes (LEAP), giving potential learners the opportunity to embark upon a rewarding career with the group.

Eradicating multiple systems and manual processes

Travis Perkins were using two separate systems to manage their MIS and e-portfolio. With multiple systems and manual processes, time was being wasted. Learner objectives, progression and reviews were entered manually and managed in a spreadsheet.

With the number of learners expected to grow with their apprenticeship programme, they identified a need for an integrated, robust solution, which would simplify the administration of learning, alongside ensuring accuracy and quality of data. It was identified that with growth an increased reliance on systems tools would be required for the management of contracts, funding and reporting.

The right solution

Tribal proposed their leading learning management solution Maytas, alongside their ePorfolio system Maytas Hubs. As the only single database solution on the market, Travis Perkins would experience the power of a truly integrated solution.

Maytas and Maytas Hubs will not only simplify their learner and ePortfolio management, but should improve employee and learner engagement, alongside the visibility of their data.

Travis Perkins will have scalable single database solution, ensuring that data quality can be upheld as they continue to grow. Learner, assessor and employer engagements can be captured remotely using a simple and intuitive interface, with Business Intelligence (BI) also incorporated into the solution, they will experience enhanced data visibility.

This not only ensures that Travis Perkins can remove the requirement for spreadsheets but it will allow for extensive management reporting which reflects the Travis Perkins structure; allowing for closer monitoring of learners and in turn better control of the programme.

The combined solution will also support the high quality standards that Travis Perkins have implemented, with built in finance, audit and Ofsted tools, the solution will support Travis Perkins on the expansion of the current apprenticeship programme and beyond.

Louise Powell, Head of Skills Development at Travis Perkins said:

“We were really impressed with the level of integration and efficiency the combination of Maytas and Maytas Hubs could bring to our learner management. The Tribal team have supported us along the way, and suggested the best combination of systems and tools to address our specific business needs. We attended their annual Maytas conference, which we found informative and exciting, a great way to get to know the team and their products better!”

Looking to the future

In the future, the Travis Perkins group plans to launch Level 5 Apprenticeships in Management, alongside offering apprenticeships up to senior leadership level giving a qualification that is the equivalent of a Bachelor's degree.

Tribal can also offer additional services to support Travis Perkins as they move forward with their apprenticeship offering, including ad hoc support for data management, audit and Ofsted.

Speaking on behalf of Tribal Group, Cheryl Watson, Vocational Sales Director said:

“We are delighted to be supporting Travis Perkins and looking forward to exciting times ahead with the expansion of their apprenticeship offering. We have a wealth of experience working with many of the leading employers in the UK, our solutions are designed to grow with your apprenticeships, and can help remove a lot of the administrative burden that can come with an increased number of learners.”
